CollOptics

CollOptics developed a laser abatable corneal overlay as a reversible, adjustable improvement to standard contact lenses and surgery.

Sourced from the Central Research Labs of GE, and in partnership with Collagen Corporation, Beta, GE and Collagen bioengineered a lenticule overlay of the eye, over which the epithelial layer would grow providing a custom, reversible alternative to vision correction surgery.

Ophthalmic Surgery | Today’s generation of refractive surgery is defined by laser-based procedures. They suffer significant side effects – high for an elective cosmetic procedure – and are irreversible. The next generation should have better corrective capabilities and be reversible. CollOptics technology was focused on a biomaterial technology which is both laser adjustable and reversible.

The technology was brought to Beta from GE’s central research labs, who partnered with CollOptics Corporation, but during the encouraging private clinical trails, Lasik quickly dominated the market and funding was stopped.
